What a wonderful evening we had with the “Wine Diva,” Christine Ansbacher at her workshop the Joy of Wine! Our gathering was equal parts fun, fascinating, and educational as Christine shared her six tips for drinking better for less. After all, life’s too short for bad wine, and your wallet shouldn’t have to suffer for a great glass! Between laughter, insider secrets, and entertaining stories, we came away with plenty of new knowledge to share at our next dinner party.
One of the evening’s most memorable moments came when Christine demonstrated the art of sabrage, using a Napoleonic saber to open a bottle of Champagne! It was a dramatic touch that brought a little history and a lot of excitement to the occasion, reminding us that enjoying wine can be as much about the experience as what’s in the glass.
Behind the “Wine Diva” persona is an impressive depth of knowledge and experience.
Christine earned the coveted Diploma from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) in London, a distinction held at the time by only 230 American wine professionals. Along the way, she traveled to every major wine region in the world, building a firsthand understanding of the people, places, and traditions behind the wines we enjoy.
In 2001, Christine passed both the written and blind wine-tasting examinations to become a Certified Wine Educator (CWE) in the United States. That level of dedication certainly gives a whole new meaning to wine-tasting “homework”! After this accomplishment Chris later brought her expertise and approachable style to the page with her 2006 best-selling guide, Secrets from The Wine Diva: Tips on Buying, Ordering and Enjoying Wine.
We’re grateful to Christine for sharing her knowledge, humor, and infectious enthusiasm with the Happiness Club. It was a delightful evening that left us better equipped to choose, appreciate, and enjoy our next glass of wine—with a little more confidence and perhaps a great story to go along with it!
